Our story

Started in a pandemic. Still going strong.

Level Up Laptop Appeal was founded by Martin Saunders in May 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Young people were sent home with schools setting work to be done online, and it quickly became clear that many students didn't have suitable IT equipment to study on — many were trying to complete school work and join online lessons on a mobile phone.

Martin works in the IT industry and felt he could do something about it. Within the first three months he collected, securely wiped, refurbished and delivered over 100 laptops to local schools in Horley, Surrey.

Who we help today

Closing the digital divide for those who need it most.

Since 2020 we've donated over 2,200 laptops. The pandemic is behind us, but access to a laptop at home remains a huge benefit for students and anyone wanting to learn or complete a course. Schools can't afford to provide these — and without support, the digital divide only widens.

Level Up now supports a broad section of our community, including women and children fleeing domestic abuse, refugees and asylum seekers, and young carers. The laptops help people learn English, complete online adult education courses and, of course, do their homework.
